Scott Mayer, a member of the Rotary Club of Key West, joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about an upcoming event.
The Stock Island Holiday Lighted Board Parade Carnival will be on December 14 at 3 p.m. at the Perry Marina. The parade starts at 6:30.
Mayer said, “The funds that we’re raising go to the Key West Rotary Club foundation and they’re earmarked, this is the fourth year, and they’re earmarked for the scholarship fund, which benefits local students of course.”
The boat parade is quite an event.
Mayer said, “Obviously, that brings out quite a few folks. We don’t have too many spots available, which is great, where it looks like we’re going to have some pretty amazing participation this year, including some of our favorites. The local law enforcement is going to decorate their boats like they have the last several years. It’s going to be a blast.”
In the boat parade, best overall will win $1,000. Best boat under 30 feet will receive $500. The best boat over 30 feet will get $500.
Mayer said, “What’s really cool about this year is it’s not just writing a check to help, all of the major sponsors are actually participating, whether it’s the judges table or there’s five carnival games this year, wheel spin, goldfish toss, the duck pond, ball toss, and Plinko. Everyone loves Plinko, right? Something else I think this is really notable this year, and we’re really excited about it, we changed the format a little bit. It’s on a Sunday as opposed to a Friday or Saturday. So we’re having a lot of games to bring folks out. But the games are not only sponsored, but we also have small prizes that have involved local businesses all over town, which is really, really cool. I think we have a record this year. I want to say there’s total about 35 local businesses that are contributing to this event this year, and over the last four years, the event has pulled in about give or take, $30,000 or so. So it’s becoming bigger every year, there’s more folks participating. And of course, we love involving all of our local businesses. So we’re really appreciative of that.”
