Having trouble with your tech? The Monroe County libraries can help!

Nancy Klingener, Community Affairs Manager for Monroe County Public Libraries, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about what’s been going on in the libraries.

There are tech tutor sessions at some of the branches.

Klingener explained, “We’ll try to guide people, one on one, if they’re having some trouble with their device, their laptop, phone platform, whatever. Of course, we’ll always try to help you get the information you want, as we have time to do. But this is a way that people can do it from home. It’s way more than just technology. It’s a platform aimed at folks 55 and older. And I don’t know about you, but I’m worried about the day when I can no longer operate my television. It’s a platform that has an amazing array of ways to help. Whatever way you are comfortable learning, whether that’s through video or reading an article or joining a live class, they’ve got all of that, and it’s peer to peer, and it’s just a really cool thing that is free with your Monroe County Public Library Card.”

You can find all the services on the website.

Klingener said, “We’ve got a step by step guide right there. So you go in, you log in with your library card, and then you set up an account. But like I said, there’s a step by step guide right there on our homepage. And from there, if you have any questions, you can contact them, or you can contact us.”

There’s also a new kids’ catalog.

Klingener said, “That makes it so much easier to find what you’re looking for in age appropriate materials.”

How’s the Islamorada refresh coming up?

Klingener said, “It’s going gangbusters. If you click on that little block, it’ll tell you both the events that are coming up in the Islamorada community and we’ve got a link to our progress, where we’re posting pictures. They’ve already got the paint on the walls. They’ve got all the books and furniture stacked into the community room. And just, I think, yesterday, they have the carpet pulled up, and they’re preparing the flooring off for new carpeting. This is actually a great time if you go down to the very bottom of the webpage under the county seal, you’ll see a line that says, sign up for email newsletter, and if you do that, you’ll get our monthly email newsletter and that’s everything happening at your local branch and system wide, and just all the cool stuff you can get from the library.”

You can also sign up for a library card online.

Klingener said, “You can pre register online and sign up. That’s good for 90 days. So you can get started using Libby or Canopy, or get set up, or any of our online resources right away, and then just come on into one of the branches and we’ll sign you up for the full two year card. If there are any Libby power users out there, and I know you’re out there, they have recently changed how they do when you suspend a hold. You used to be able to say, deliver later and say, send this to me in a month or two weeks, and that’s no longer. You just suspend the hold, and then when you’re ready for the book or audio book, you unsuspend the hold.”
