The Republican Party of Monroe County is ready to celebrate America’s 250th!

Rhonda Rebman Lopez, chair of the Republican Party of Monroe County, joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about what’s going on in the party.

The Republican Party of Monroe County will hold a dinner to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country on June 14.

Lopez said, “It’s a big, beautiful celebration. It’s actually a big, huge birthday party, because our country’s 250th anniversary, and then our wonderful President Trump’s 80th birthday. So, we’ll be celebrating two monumental birthdays, and we’re billing it more as a birthday party for America and our president. It will be in Key Largo. I have not released the exact address or anything, and that may be upon RSVP due to security requirements, but I’ll let you know as much as I can. I am juggling around a few of the speakers, and believe it or not, some of them are wanting to speak for like 45 minutes, I said we will have to reserve the longer speaking time for our keynote, but we’ll have some speakers coming in, and they’re outstanding, and I like when they speak five to 10 minutes and get to hear a little bit from everyone, so I’m getting emails this morning from different people’s notable figure schedulers, and I woke up to a lot of emails, so I’m returning those, but I promise that we’re going to make it a really fantastic, awesome celebration. That should be released early this week. As far as how to RSVP, buy tickets, we want to encourage people to check their emails too. If you are registered Republican and you have your email on file with your voter’s registration, we do send out emails, so we’ll be doing that in social media.”

The state of Florida has not yet passed a budget.

Lopez said, “I was looking over some of the allocations that were sent to me yesterday, and I always look for Monroe County, and of course, there’s a million of them, and I’m just hoping that we can get more back, or as much back as we send, which, that’s probably impossible, but I really want to see what we get back for the community projects, things like that, and the Florida Keys College – a lot of that’s real important, so we’ll see. I’m really concerned about Florida Keys College, because I looked at some of the other colleges throughout the state, and most of them asked for around $6 million and they got it, and I didn’t see that Florida Keys College got it, and I am not going to be happy if they don’t get at least something, so we’ve got a problem if that’s the case.”

Alexandria Suarez, chair of the College of the Florida Keys Board of Trustees will speak to the Southernmost Republican Club on Wednesday, June 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the American Legion, 5610 College Road, Stock Island.

Lopez said, “Alexandria, she’s a wealth of information for the college, and I am so happy that she’s chairing the board of trustees, and she is on top of everything, and has a really good relationship with the powers that be, as far as the commissioner of education, etc. etc. and I think that she will break out some really good information, because I think we’re really trying to energize, promote, and do more with the college, because I think there’s a lot of potential there that needs to be unleashed.”

The Republican Party is working hard to get people out to vote in the midterm elections.

Lopez said, “I think that our job is to drive up the numbers and get out that vote, that is our job as the Republican Party of Monroe County, and the executive committee, and our precinct committee, men and women, and that is a big, big focus for us, whether it be through mail, TV, radio, I think if you just create the awareness, and people might get busy and forget about it, because it’s summertime, and people are out and about, and they may have to vote by mail, but we got to make sure we chase those absentee ballots and get these votes in. We’ve got some great candidates. Sherri Hodies has done an outstanding job at coming in as supervisor of elections. I mean, she’s really got her finger on the pulse, and she’s all over the county, even going to some of the schools and introducing ways to vote, registering to vote for the young people. So, I’m real proud of her. And we’ve got candidates coming in. I’m just so happy that we’ve got all these people interested in doing this work that has to be done. I mean this is work and it’s a labor of love. I just want everyone to continue to pray and support our wonderful military officers and our state, local, county, and national figures. Pray for our country. I think we’re in a pretty stressful time right now, with everything going on in Cuba and Iran, but I trust President Trump is really, really on top of everything, and the hardest worker out there. God bless America.”
