Tanya Solomon with the legendary Key Largo Chamber of Commerce joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about what’s going on in Key Largo.
This year’s Fourth of July festivities exceeded expectations as the community celebrated both the nation’s 250th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Key Largo parade.
“We were so blown away by everybody,” Solomon said. “It was an amazing, amazing parade. I’ve been told that this was one of, if not the biggest turnout that we’ve had for the parade between folks coming out to celebrate and folks being in the parade.”
She credited the community’s enthusiasm and participation for making the celebration memorable.
“We had some amazing floats,” Solomon said. “The parade was fantastic. The park was fantastic. Lots of people came out to enjoy the community picnic this year.”
The festivities concluded with a fireworks display that Solomon said capped off a successful day of celebrating the community and the nation’s milestone anniversary.
The event was made possible through support from numerous sponsors, including the Key West International Airport and several Upper Keys businesses.
“Thank you to the Key West International Airport, but also to our platinum sponsors like Keys Weekly, Sundowners and Reefhouse Resort,” Solomon said. “We had so many other sponsors that made it a fantastic event.”
Looking ahead, the chamber will host its next Members in Motion networking event on Thursday, July 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Houston Insurance.
Hosted by chamber trustee Mary Houston, the event will feature networking opportunities, refreshments, specialty coffee drinks, gelato, a photo booth and light appetizers.
“Anybody can come, and everybody is welcome,” Solomon said. “You can register on our website at keylargochamber.org.”
The chamber also announced its August luncheon, scheduled for Aug. 13 at Reefhouse Resort, featuring Visit Florida President and CEO Brian Griffin.
“Brian is going to speak to tourism, and we’re going to have a conversation open for questions,” Solomon said. “Tourism is so important to all of us here, so it’s going to be something that you’re going to want to come and listen to.”
Another major event on the chamber’s calendar is Taste the Keys, which returns throughout the month of October.
“It’s going to be a fantastic event,” Solomon said. “It’s patterned after Miami Spice, where many of our local restaurants present menus specifically for this event.”
Participating restaurants will offer special menus throughout October, while the chamber will also organize progressive dinner-style trolley tours and a friendly competition allowing diners to vote for their favorite dishes.
“It’s always fun,” Solomon said. “I’m a foodie at heart, so it’s fun to go out and try new restaurants and get to have things that you wouldn’t normally have or maybe wouldn’t normally try.”
Solomon encouraged businesses interested in learning more about the chamber to get involved.
“We love talking to business folks, and we love talking about our beautiful community,” she said. “I’ve never met a more gracious and kind group of people, so you will not be disappointed if you choose to join us and become a chamber member.”
