Paul Murphy, president of Sister Season Fund, joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about the bed race coming up.
The Julie Hanson Memorial bed race will be held this Saturday to benefit Sister Season Fund.
Murphy said Sister Season Fund will “pay their rent and we pay their utilities when they get sick or injured, we step in and we pay their rent for them so they don’t have to leave Key West of the Keys. We’ve been going for about 14 years now.”
The bed races will begin at Duval Street.
Murphy said, “They like to dress up. Everyone dresses up. The races start at three. We will start selling up around 11 ish, but the races start at three. They can still get in. I know one of our board members has been promoting it as well. They can still get in. They just need to go to the website to register. We’re very grateful for all the sponsorship that we get.”
Aqua Idol will be on Tuesday.
Murphy said, “Tuesday is opening night. We have 10 fabulous singers, ranging from last year’s winner, Carl Riecke, who is now one of the owners of White Street Pizza, and a few other surprises as well. That starts at six o’clock on Tuesday and runs for six weeks.”
The beneficiary of Aqua Idol is Sister Season Fund.
Murphy said, “The links are live now. If they go to sisterseason.com, you can vote for your favorite singer each week, and that will go to Sister Season as well.”
The bed races are in memory of Julie Hanson.
Murphy said, “She was a president, and then became our Executive Director.”
