Nikki Neves, Community Outreach Manager for the Upper Keys Habitat for Humanity joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about what’s going on in the organization.
The 22nd annual Cocktail Party is coming up on March 14 at Cheeca Lodge and Spa in Islamorada.
Neves said, “Each year we switch it up. This year we’re doing a circus spectacular. So it’s going to be fun. It’s going to be circus themed food stations. We’ll have carnival games. We’ll have a really nice live auction. We have a fantastic DJ there, so dancing and music, and of course, all tickets come with unlimited wine and beer from Islamorada Beer Company and seltzers as well as wine. So it’s a really fun event. All proceeds do go to the affordable housing construction here in the Upper Keys, which is crucial, as we all know. So this is a good way to show your support and have a good time.”
There’s also a VIP pre-party that people can take advantage of.
Neves said, “It’s from 5:30 to 6:30 at Cheeca. It’ll be at the nice little beach area close to the main ballroom where the main event happens. So if people were interested, those tickets do go pretty fast. They’re online right now and we actually have a special running. Generally tickets for the general admission, it’s $250, but if you purchase your ticket between now and February 10, you can get your ticket for $215. So if you’re coming, you might as well just buy them now.”
Registration will close March 12. Tables are also available.
Neves said, “We have sponsorship opportunities where a lot of those do come with tables and tickets. We do want to say a special thank you First Horizon Bank and American Caribbean Real Estate, Christie’s International. Those are our presenting sponsors. We have a few more, maybe still looking to sign up. Then we also have a handful of gold sponsors that make it all possible. CBT Construction, Islamorada Beer Company, Riva, Cheeca, so without all of these people, we couldn’t make all this happen. So we’re really grateful to the community for coming out and sponsoring. I think it really stands out as a highlight event in the community, so you don’t want to miss it.”
There are some rental properties available right now through Habitat.
Neves said, “They’re at Windley Point, at mile marker 84. We do have a process for that. It’s a little different than the home buyer program, but there is a rental screening. But these are beautiful, beautiful places, two bedroom, two and a half bath. It is affordable housing. It’s $2,149 a month, plus water and electric. As we all know, rent is extremely high in the area right now. So if you qualify for this, this really is a great thing. So if you want to know more about our rentals, go on our Facebook, our Instagram, give us a call, come see us. There’s a lot of ways to find us.”
Don’t forget the Restore at mile marker 98.
Neves said, “When you shop, you volunteer, you’re helping the organization, and they do pickups. So there’s a process for that. You do send photos, but let’s say you’ve got a nice item, they can actually come pick it up from your home, and you make a donation that way. So there’s a lot of ways to get involved. They have a core group of volunteers that year after year show up, and they’re there every week and they do it because they have fun together. It’s really cool to see.”
