Steve Miller, executive director of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about events.
A social will be held tomorrow.
Miller reminded, “The socials are free to everybody to attend. We always give up prizes, and we always have a really, really good time. I recommend to everybody, if you get a chance, man, come out and check it out. It is going to be fun. This one is going to be for Coast Love, and we’re going to be having it right here on the chamber grounds, because, well, Coast Love doesn’t have a building, so we’re kind of helping them out there. That’s coming up tomorrow at six o’clock.”
Island Art Fest is coming up on November 30.
Miller said, “It happens always the Saturday after Thanksgiving and, holy cow, this thing is just so much fun. It always is. We have all kinds of vendors that come out for this every year, and there is a lot of them too. We got some great, great food vendors too. I think we have ice cream and sandwiches and all kinds of really, really good stuff, and some very artistic people here in the Florida Keys. I mean, it just blows my mind. Now, you’ve been to other little festivals and art fairs and stuff like that, but this is a lot of local people, especially, who take care, and they do these like little handmade things, just perfect to get them in time for you to have great Christmas presents. This is stuff that you’re not going to find anywhere else.”
How many vendors will be there?
Miller said, “I think this year we’re going to be looking at around 80. So there’s going to be a lot to see. And we have local musicians that come out to perform. We got this beautiful, beautiful little picnic area where everybody can just kind of sit back under the trees, and it’s generally a really pretty nice that time of the year. You can go around, check out some of these food vendors, sit down at the picnic tables, enjoy the music, and then get up and just take a look at all the really, really cool stuff that everybody has to offer.”
The 21st annual Big Pine and Lower Keys Nautical Expo on January 25 and 26.
Miller said, “That thing is huge. We have thousands of people that attend that thing every year, there’s food vendors all the place and all over the place, and it is a nautical theme. So especially for you fishermen, you boaters, you snorkelers, you divers, anybody that has anything to do with the water or even if you don’t. I have people that come out here and they sell like artwork or furniture, the Adirondack chair people come out here every year, and they just have such a great display. We even have boats on the ground to where you could take a look at no maybe getting yourself into a brand new boat. Possibilities are endless. And once again, we’ll have local musicians performing which is always so cool, and the great, great food vendors. There’s vendors that have come to this event for the last 20 years. That’s how much they like it, and that’s how successful this one is. These guys keep coming back again and again and again and again and it’s mind blowing. Now I still have spaces available if you would like to be a vendor in either the Island Art Fair or the Nautical, you still have spaces and places that you can check out.”
