Scott Mayer with the Key West Rotary Club joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about the lighted boat parade.
The Stock Island Lighted Boat Parade will be held on Sunday, December 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Perry Hotel and Marina.
Admission is free.
Mayer said, “We’re really excited about it.”
There will be more than 12 boats involved this year.
Mayer added, “Some of the games that we’ve got going on this time around are we got wheel spin, goldfish toss, duck pond, ball toss. We have Plinko, which I don’t know about you, but when I was 10 years old, I loved Plinko, watching Bob Barker. One of the other really exciting things, in addition to all of our awesome major sponsors, is this year, because we had games, we have a ton of prizes. And these aren’t just like little prizes. We’ve got little prizes for the kids and really fun stuff, but we’ve got prizes for adults too. We have a record number of businesses. There’s over 40 businesses involved this year, which is really exciting. And in amongst the prizes, we’ve got about 200 gift cards donated by local businesses valued at over $3,000 in total, including this is a really exciting one. For $20 you get two chances at winning either a two night stay at the La Concha or a Bloody Mary party. Each one of those two is worth $750 alone. So we’ve got all kinds of prizes for kids and adults and everybody in between and celebrity judges.”
The best overall boat will receive $1,000; best boat under 30 feet is $500 and the best boat over 30 feet also gets $500.
The event helps the Key West Rotary Foundation.
Mayer said, “This particular one is earmarked for local scholarships for students, which is something near and dear to all of our hearts. We all love supporting the local students, especially those that are in need. The event has, so far, I think, we’ve raised over the years, over $30,000 so, and this year, well, I think should be the biggest year yet. So we love this community, and we love supporting our students.”
