Dolphin tournament will actually present $20,000 for the largest dolphin over 50 pounds

The Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce had to postpone their dolphin tournament last weekend because of the bad weather, but it is back on beginning this evening.

Steve Miller, Executive Director of the Lower Key Chamber of Commerce, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to give a rundown of the tournament.

Registration is tonight at 5 p.m., including a mandatory captain’s meeting at 7, at Kiki’s Sandbar, Little Torch Key.

Tomorrow at 7 a.m., the lines will go in and weigh in will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kiki’s. On Sunday, lines will go in at 7 a.m. again and weigh in will be from 3 to 5 p.m.

A dinner and awards ceremony will follow at 6 p.m. at Kiki’s.

The largest dolphin over 50 pounds will be awarded $20,000. That’s not a joke.

There are many other prizes as well.

Miller said, “A lot of people come out just to check out the weigh ins because it is actually a lot of fun. We’ve got the tent set up on the beach and you can watch them as they come up to the dock…and everybody watches to see who brings in the biggest one. It’s pretty exciting as the day goes on.”
