Michelle Nevel, Development Director with Keys AHEC, joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about the organization.
There is a fund drive going on that will provide matching donations for Keys AHEC.
Nevel said, “Unfortunately, this year, we have lost our state funding, and now the chance of losing some of our local county funding as well, and we are running a $200,000 match campaign right now, so any donations that are brought in right now will be matched dollar for dollar to help make up the difference in the loss of funding that we’ve received this year. One of the things that we’re doing to help make up that difference is the Sloppy Joe’s foundation invited us to come and do caturdays there every Saturday in August, and this Saturday, tomorrow will be our final day there. We will be at Sloppy Joe’s from noon till about 8pm so all throughout the day we will be there, we’ll be doing some prize giveaways, going up on stage. They have a wheel to spin. It’s a lot of fun. We’re collecting donations, and in return for your donation, we’ll give you some lovely cat ears that light up and flash to show your support. And it’s just a really fun day and a great way to help raise some money for our Children’s Medical and Dental Clinics. Our clinics are everywhere from Key Largo to Key West, and support all of the Florida Keys school aged children, pre K through 12th. If anyone can’t get out this weekend, and they would still like to make a contribution that can be done through our website.”
Keys AHEC helps so many children in our school district.
Nevel said, “Just please come out and support us. We would love to see everyone, even if you can just stop in for a short period of time and show your support. We like to see the ears light up the entire room. And if anyone would like to support us in any other way, we do have a list of upcoming events on our website, along with our donor match campaign is on our website. Of course, anytime anybody has any questions or wants to, they can give us a call, and I’m always happy to tell them what we do.”
