Key West City Hall continues to be busy

Key West Mayor Dee Dee Henriquez joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about what’s going on in the city.

Business is moving forward in City Hall.

Henriquez said, “Today, at five o’clock, there is a citizen review board meeting here held in the chambers at City Hall. Then tomorrow, May 20, there’s a tree commission meeting starting at five here at city hall. They have a full agenda. There’s over 20 items to discuss, in reference to tree removals, and I’ve seen a lot of activity on Facebook in reference to they had counted close to 50 some trees looking to be approved to be removed. So I believe that’s going to be a very interesting meeting. Then on Wednesday, we have the Key West Bight Management District board budget review. Their meeting is going to be from three to five. Then right after that we have the City Marina live aboard is the pricing structure on Marina dockage rates workshop, that’s going to be five to seven. So I’m really looking forward to that so that we can have some kind of closure and move forward on the pricing. So looking forward to that meeting. Then there’s also an Arts in Public Places Advisory Board meeting at the same time, so they’ll probably move that meeting upstairs in the conference room. Then on Thursday, at 10am we have a Development Review Committee, the DRC meeting that’s going to be in the chambers. Right after that on Thursday, we have a code enforcement hearing that’s from 130 to 430 and then starting at five on Thursday the same day, we have a Parks and Rec Advisory Board meeting, so three meetings on Thursday, and then Friday, of course, is our Early Bird cleanup at Lazy Way. That’s going to be hosted by Jersey Mike’s and from the Overseas Market. So that will be very good. Then on Saturday, we have the Menendez Miler. And the reason why I’m mentioning that the 5k walk, there will be no street closures. It starts at eight o’clock, and I believe it’s out there at the Truman Waterfront Park, so they have their route out there, so there will definitely be no street closures there. Then, just to let everybody know, that we will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.”

It was really a great season for local athletics.

Henriquez said, “It was very exciting for the girls. I know that we lit up City Hall in red, in honor of the girls softball team. So that was exciting. They were just one game short to go into the final four for the state championship, but they have something to be very, very proud of, and we look forward to watching them next year.”

City Hall continues to move forward, no matter what may be happening.

Henriquez said, “As you can see, we have a lot of meetings this week, a lot of decision making, and then we’ll start preparing for our City Commission meeting that’s going to be in June. So everything is definitely moving forward, and projects are lining up and getting ready to be closed, and we could check that box that they’re finished. There’s a lot of good stuff going on over here as well.”

The commissioners are all making a strong attempt and succeeding in reaching out to their constituents for transparency.

Henriquez said, “I was very excited to see that as well. I know I had my town hall meeting, and then Commissioner Lee had his district meeting over there at the Double Tree, and now Commissioner Haskell is having her district meeting. So I’m just so excited to see that they’re getting out in the community and listening to their constituents so that we can bring forward any issues that they may have. The next commission meeting will be on June 4, that’s on a Wednesday, not on Tuesday, June 3. So this will be a little bit different. There is no commission meeting in the month of July, but we do have our budget workshops, so that’ll be a two day process, but there will definitely not be a commission meeting in July. I just encourage everyone to attend some of these meetings, if they can. They learn a lot from these meetings, and there’s a lot going on this week, and just be careful and be safe out there.”
