Keys Common Sense Conservatives is bringing in Byron Donalds on Sunday

Monroe County Commissioner Holly Merrill Raschein joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about what’s going on in the county.

Today is emergency management day in Tallahassee.

Raschein said, “It’s a good crowd, and all the movers and shakers in the emergency management world are here and excited to see what’s new in this industry.”

Byron Donalds will be in Marathon for Keys Common Sense Conservatives on Sunday.

Raschein said, “Keys Common Sense Conservatives is a neat organization that a bunch of us elected officials around the Keys formed just so we had a welcoming space, an open space to support local candidates, to support the elected officials that are serving so proudly in the Keys. We get together quarterly, we have calls. We had a rally on the anniversary of the president’s assassination attempt. We also had a wonderful barbecue at the American Legion down in Marathon recognizing law enforcement and military servicemen and women. And then the event that we’re talking about is this weekend is for Congressman Byron Donalds. He’s one of the front runners for our new governor of the state of Florida. It’s a big year in terms of that election, and we are just so honored that his team and the campaign is able to take a stop in the Keys and come meet some keys voters. We’re going to be having a barbecue from 11:30 to 1:30. It’s going to be at the Oceanfront Park. Again, super excited about this. I served with Congressman Donalds when I was in the legislature. He’s also a fellow Seminole. We were there at the same time, and he’s just a really overall good dude. He was a good compadre in the legislature, and then obviously made the switch to serve in Congress. He’s worked really hard for his district in the state of Florida up there, and now he’s decided to turn his attention to being the chief executive of our state.”

Is there an opportunity for others to get involved in Keys Common Sense Conservatives?

Raschein said, “It’s not just for elected officials. We absolutely encourage new members and folks to come out and support the cause. We will have membership applications at the event. It’s very simple. There’s a one time sign up fee, and that opens up opportunities again, to meet with like minded people, with the mission of moving our community forward in a positive way. It’s going to be an exciting time to just come out, meet Byron. His goal is to meet people in the Keys. He hasn’t spent a lot of time in the Keys, and this is kind of a major stop for him, and he’ll be traveling up the Keys later in the evening, but we’ve got him for a couple hours again. It’s going to be informal. We’re going to have barbecue. It’s going to be friend friendly, really encourage young people to get out and see this in action. I’ve had conversations with him. I’ve had conversations with his team. We just had a big influx of people move to the state of Florida and so what does that mean in the future? Our population has ballooned. We want people to come to Florida. We want strong businesses to make Florida their home, their headquarters. But what does that look like in terms of the future, water infrastructure, things like that? The Congressman is also big on education. Obviously, everybody loves education and wants to see it in the best state possible. So I’m excited to hear from him. People get a chance to shake his hand, take a picture, meet him and just have a good time.”
