Nikki Sommer, a nurse with Key West Surgical Group, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about the PicoSure laser.
Key West Surgical Group has revolutionary technology, which can remove tattoos and can help with skin rejuvenation.
Sommer said, “I got Dr. Larrauri to laser my face.”
Mike Stapleford from KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM pointed out, “You had said we can’t see it on the radio and that’s true, but you were showing me some of the pictures before, during and after the procedure. And not that there was any real concern for a need for improvement on your face, however, you can notice the difference. You really can.”
“You’re not lying?” Sommer asked.
Stapleford confirmed, “No, no, I’m not.”
“I’m glowing?” she asked.
“You are glowing,” Stapleford said. “There is more color, but there’s less wrinkles.”
Sommer chuckled, “Oh, hey, less wrinkles. That’s it!”
Stapleford said, “Again, not that it was specifically pronounced but there is a difference.”
“And it hasn’t even been a week,” Sommer noted. “Which I mean, they say give it a couple of weeks, we always say do at least three treatments because especially for pigmentation issues which I have a lot of freckles, so when I got zapped, there are certain areas on my face that got darker and that is normal, that’s all part of the process because the laser kind of like hits those darker spots and it’s almost like it shakes the pigment, like wakes them up breaks them up and says get lost. So you might have some darker spots for a week or two and then you will see them fade.”
The laser uses picosecond laser technology to revitalize your skin and it stimulates collagen production by gently removing damaged layers.
Sommer said, “The outer layer of your skin takes a beating because that is the one that’s exposed the most to the environment and then as the free radicals sink in, so what this laser does and it’s kind of what makes it great for down here is the fact that there is no downtime. You can see like my face is barely red. The day of the treatment obviously it looked a little bit like I had a sunburn. After you numb for like 45 minutes, you get the treatment and then we put a really nice cooling mask on and after I put the mask on and I took it off, I think my redness was down almost 50%.”
It takes 45 minutes to numb the face.
Sommer said, “He did my face and my neck, which we could do your face, your neck, and they call it your décolletage, like your breast bone, depending you could do all three in one session, it just depends what you want. A lot of people have hyperpigmentation from the sun, it usually starts at the face, it could be the neck or fine lines and wrinkles, whatever you’re going for, but figure 15 to, we’ll say, 15 to 30 minutes if you did all three areas. But it goes pretty quick. And then we have you put that mask on, and we keep it on for about 10 to 20 minutes. When you start to get into this stuff, you need to have a good routine with skincare. But the procedure itself after a couple of hours, I was like 75% less red, and my family had no idea I did anything. I walked in the house and I was like, did you see my face? And my daughter was like, oh, did you have Botox, mom? I’m like, no.”
What is the procedure actually like?
Sommer said, “It’s mild discomfort and it’s a different discomfort. That’s one of the reasons why I wanted to try it because everybody has, they tell me they can’t describe what it feels like. So what I feel it feels like is little tiny shocks I think on the skin or like if there was I don’t want to say a hot needle but it’s so fast. When it moves away like the area that you’re treating, there’s no more discomfort.”
Overall, how was the experience?
Sommer said, “It was a good experience and with the collagen and elastin building, when you have these treatments, it actually still is continuing to build three to six months after and that’s when it really kicks in. So even after you have the treatment months later, you will still see improvements from the treatment.”
Usually three treatments are recommended.
Sommer said, “A lot of times I tell people if you have done other laser treatments or other kinds of invasive things to your face, you might not see dramatic results after the first treatment and they tell you that. That’s why we always recommend at least three. There is no downtime. So if you need to go back out in the sun, I mean, sunblock, a hat, but you can go. We recommend you don’t go in the sun. But if you have to you have to, you know down here you can’t avoid it.”
Who is a good candidate for the PicoSure laser?
Sommer said, “There’s no age restrictions. If they’re under the age of 18, we would require parental consent, because this laser is actually really good for acne and acne scarring. So a lot of older teens as they’re getting back to go off to college, they have a lot of acne scarring. I do have a, she’s in her mid 30s, who has suffered with acne and has acne scarring, and texture issues and in just one treatment, she was so happy with her results.”
After all three treatments are done, how long will it last?
Sommer said, “Depending on what skin issue you have, if it’s hyperpigmentation you might need another one. So we say reevaluate it like three months from your last treatment, two to three months, and then come up with a plan once a year or once every six months. If you’re doing it to try and battle age, or age spots, new ones are always going to pop up.”
Sommer can speak to the results first hand.
She said, “I highly recommend it. I can’t wait for my next treatment. It really wasn’t that bad.”
How can people get more information?
Sommer said, “We’re offering a free consultation, so you can call the office. You can ask for me and if I’m not available, Rebecca at the front, she can schedule the consultation.”
