Memorial Day is a great time to thank all our service men and women

Rhonda Rebman-Lopez, chairman for the Republican Party of Monroe County, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about recent events.

Memorial Day is a good time to thank our service men and women.

Rebman-Lopez said, “We must always honor our wonderful veterans that make our country the greatest country in the world. They do a great job with those celebrations. I’m so thankful we have so many of our veterans engaged and the people of our community. I also saw beautiful ceremonies. I watched President Trump and Vice President Vance and Hegseth, the Defense Secretary, a beautiful at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier over at Arlington Cemetery. That’s always a beautiful event, and it just makes you always keep in mind that freedom isn’t free.”

Monroe County Police Officer Julian Garcia was the recipient of the South Florida PBA Officer of the Year award recently.

Rebman-Lopez said, “It was a wonderful evening at Trump Doral, and we were so excited. We just loved Deputy Julian Garcia, and he was so worthy of that award. We’re just very, very thankful one of our own won that and it was a great evening. Governor DeSantis was the keynote speaker, and we had a great evening. It was probably over 1,000 people there.”

The quarterly Republican Party of Florida meeting was held in Orlando recently.

Rebman-Lopez said, “It was a great meeting. All the chairs, state committee men, state committee women, gathered together in Orlando to conduct business and breakouts for committee meetings. I’m chairman of the fundraising committee for the Republican Party of Florida. So we have a committee of around 12 people, and when we met, we had over 100 people in attendance in our breakout meeting, and we just went over some fundraising ideas and things to do to beef up the fundraising for these elections, because it comes around before you know it.”

What’s the latest news about what’s going on in Tallahassee?

Rebman-Lopez said, “It’s unfortunate that budget has not been finalized. My understanding they’re at somewhat of an impasse, but we know they’ll get it done, but I hope they get it done sooner than later.”

There are a number of ways to take part in the Republican Party in Monroe County.

Rebman-Lopez said, “The more the merrier. We want everyone involved. The more turnout we can get to vote, and the more people we can get to get out and advocate for conservative values and ideas for Monroe County just makes a better place for all of us to live, work and play.”

The Florida Keys Young Republicans Club is another great resource.

Rebman-Lopez said, “Our young people, we know that is our future, and we should always support any and everything that they try to do. I definitely encourage young people to get involved and make the decision to stay involved throughout your life, because your children, grandchildren and our future is in your hands. God bless America.”
