Suzi Youngberg, the president of the Greater Key Largo Chamber of Commerce, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about helping businesses.
Key Largo is the start of the Florida Keys.
Youngberg said, “We are the legendary Key Largo Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Keys Visitor Center are right here at the top of the Keys were sort of the welcome into Key Largo and the Florida Keys. If you’ve never been up to our visitor center here at mile marker 106 we have a lovely building here with lots of information about the Florida Keys. Of course, we promote Key Largo because we are the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce, but we give information all about the Florida Keys, all the way down to Key West. In addition to supporting our visitors and promoting that, we also support our tourism based businesses here in Key Largo. I mean, we do promote and support all businesses, but as the visitor center, our tourism based businesses are very important. A lot of them have their brochures and their material here in our visitor center so people can make their reservations as they arrive into town. We average here in our visitor center right now, we’re still getting over 100 visitors a day stopping in and on season that that doubles, of course, but a lot of people are stopping in, wanting information about what’s going on here and how we can best have fun in the Florida Keys.”
The Key Largo Chamber of Commerce is an opportunity for many businesses to promote who they are and where they are.
Youngberg said, “If any tourism based businesses out there are interested, of course, give us a call if you want to be part of our visitor center and help promote your business here. But it is important. We all know that tourism is important. The tourism based businesses, everyone here, all of our jobs come back and ultimately depend on the visitors who come here.”
The Chamber of Commerce really does benefit its members by providing all kinds of information.
Youngberg said, “We do try to keep things relevant, to have good, relevant speakers for our members. We do two networking events a month, we have our monthly luncheon where we did have Rick Ramsey this past month. And in May, we’re going to have Mayor Jim Scholl. So I know everyone wants to hear the State of the County and what’s going on there. In June, our state representative. In July, we have Shannon Wiener from the emergency management system. And then in August, we’ll have Kara Franker, from the TDC. So we do have a lot of great speakers coming up if people want to know what’s going on in our community. The great thing about these luncheons is not just networking with other members and other people in our community, but you can actually meet these leaders in our community, like the sheriff and the mayor and the representative. They’re very approachable. That’s one thing we’re very fortunate here in our community and if you come to these networking luncheons and avail yourself of that, you can just really learn a lot more and get a lot more involved with what’s going on.”
How can people find out more about the Chamber?
Youngberg said, “The best way to find out about us is to go to our website. We have information about what we do and who we are. We always have our event calendar up to date on there, not only with our chamber events, our luncheons and our evening events, but also community events. A lot members will send us their information, and we put that on our calendar, so it’s just a good source of information. You can also find our directory there, which is great way if need to find a business here in Key Largo, or pretty much anywhere in the Florida Keys, we do have members all the all the way down into Key Largo and even up into the Miami Dade area. It shows you that these businesses are reputable, that they cared enough to take that extra step to join the Chamber and be part of the community. So I would always suggest, if you’re looking for a plumber or an air conditioning repair or anything like that, that you go to the Chamber directory and find a Chamber member there.”
Tomorrow night will be Members in Motion for April.
Youngberg said, “We will be at the Wesley House at their new location in Key Largo from 5:30 to 7:30. You don’t need a reservation, just stop by. It’ll cost you $20 but you’ll get some good food and a beverage and have a good time mingling with some folks here in Key Largo.”
