Linda Diaz, president of the Marathon Community Theater Board, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM yesterday morning to talk about an ongoing fundraiser.
Raise the Roof is going to help repair the roof on the theater.
Diaz said, “We are making some progress. The community support has been amazing, and we had an anonymous donor who would match up to our first $50,000 that we were able to raise, and we had a representative from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation who came in. We received a check this week for $25,000, so including the match, we are almost halfway to our goal of $250,000 to replace the roof. We’re at about $108,000 so far. We’re just not going to make it through a hurricane season at this point. So it’s a very timely situation where we really need the community support. This is an organization that’s been in place for more than 80 years, and we want to make sure we still have a place to share all of our fabulous productions with our community. It’s a volunteer organization. Every person that is on stage or behind stage is donating their time, and it’s just for the love of the community and for the kids too. We do a lot of things that focus on families and children”
Nunsense is getting ready to open on March 13..
Diaz said, “I was at rehearsal last night, and the harmonies, the songs are just so clever, and it’s just really going to be a fantastic show. Then our show following that is called The Siegel, which is kind of a quirky romantic comedy, and rehearsals have started for that as well.”
Drag Queen bingo will be on March 9.
Diaz said, “The theme is the fabulous 50s, so it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Help the Marathon Community Theater continue for another 80 years by donating to fix the roof today.
