Marathon Community Theater still needs your help with the roof!

Linda Schaefer, president of the Marathon Community Theater, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about the organization.

How is the funding for the new roof coming?

Schaefer said, “I have some really great news. We were able to raise, so far $143,000 and we found a fantastic company that was able to replace our roof. In the process, we found out that we had a very big change order, unfortunately. So the total cost is about $290,000 so we’re just about halfway there. We did secure a loan, and we’re hoping to continue to raise funds, because once that interest kicks in and we’re making those payments, it’s going to be really challenging. So we still have a very big need, but thankfully, this is our strongest season in quite a while, and we’re going to have some great shows coming up. So I’m really optimistic that between the shows and our generous donors, we’re going to be able to compensate and get that loan paid off as soon as possible.”

The Marathon Community Theater Indoor Yard Sale will start tomorrow and run through Friday.

Schaefer said, “I was at the theater last night, and you couldn’t even get through the front door without running into bargains. There’s clothing, there’s electronics. My husband and I donated some computers and some televisions, and the generosity of everybody, we actually had to say, please don’t bring us more stuff, because there’s so much there. It’s a very nice selection. It’s going to be great.”

Cutbacks have been felt just about everywhere.

Schaefer said, “We’re feeling it, for sure. We’re just so ingrained with the community, and whenever we put on the show or have an event, and the cinemas, as well, had some great movies over at the cinema side, the community really supports us, and we really appreciate it.”

Some big shows are coming up at the theater, including Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Wizard of Oz and the Odd Couple.

Schaefer said, “I’m directing the Odd Couple, and my husband is directing Little Shop of Horrors, and Kara Pascucci is directing Wizard of Oz, and we’re in rehearsals right now for Rocky Horror. So we are just very, very busy and getting ready to share a lot of fun shows with everybody.”
