Samuel’s House has been in the Keys for 25 years

Maria Protopsaltis, deputy director of Samuel’s House, joined Good Morning Keys on KeysTalk 96.9/102.5FM this morning to talk about the organization.

Samuel’s House was founded in 1999.

Protopsaltis said, “It was actually started to help women and women with children who were facing homelessness, that either become homeless or were on the verge of homelessness. Since that time, we’ve actually grown significantly. We have a second facility called Kathy’s Hope that we built in 2007 and a third facility called Casa de Meredith that we built in 2010 and both our first two facilities, both the Mary Spottswood Women’s Center and Kathy’s Hope both focus on that much urgent need of women and women with children. Then our third facility accommodates men with children as well as families. We have grown significantly since 1999.”

This is the 25th anniversary of Samuel’s House operating in the Keys.

Protopsaltis said, “This year we’ve come together, and we thought it would be amazing to reflect that in our women of integrity and men of valor event, which is coming up on Thursday, March 27 at the Beachside Hotel, in the ballroom. We’re doing all things big for this event this year. It’s going to be over the top, but we also like our silent auction, to be over the top. So I want thank the members of our community, business owners and individuals who’ve already contributed and let our community know that we’re still accepting silent auction donations. This is big. This is going to be huge for our 25th celebration. So nothing is too silly, believe it or not, there’s so many different things that we all love and secretly want, and come to these silent auctions for from artwork to jewelry to experiences. So please contact us and we would be happy to assist any way possible. We’ll pick up or meet you, anything we could do to make the process seamless.”

The Miss Island Queen pageant is also coming up for Samuel’s House.

Protopsaltis said, “The 2025 Miss Island Queen, it’s actually a talent and beauty pageant, but we’re putting out there the Save the Date. We’ve got an amazing lineup of teams, and they’re going to start putting on shows as well as a meet and greet. So I want everyone to stay tuned on both. I think the date for that is going to be Monday, May 19, of course, at the Key West Theater. There’s not going to be a dull moment, for sure. Thank you to our entire community. We could not have come this far without your support.”
