Key West Mayor Dee Dee Henriquez joined Good Morning Keys on Keys Talk 96.9/102.5FM yesterday morning to talk about what’s going on in the city.
The city commission will meet next Wednesday.
Henriquez said, “The agenda will be published, I believe, Wednesday afternoon, so we will start having our agenda reviews to be able to go over it with our city manager, our city attorney, and start getting prepared for the meeting. Now, remember, it’s not on Thursday, it’s on Wednesday. We had to change again. I know we’re driving everybody crazy with the changing of the dates, but it will be Wednesday, April Fool’s Day, and I believe it’s also Commissioner Castillo’s birthday on the same day. But from my understanding, it’s going to be a full, packed agenda. So I can’t wait to be able to get the agenda start working on it and being prepared for following Wednesday, starting at 9am.”
Will Higgs Beach be up for discussion?
Henriquez said, “From my understanding, yes, it should be on the agenda for us to be able to vote on it and have lots of discussions. So from my understanding, the county staff and our city staff, along with our city manager, they’ve been working very diligently since our March meeting, because we gave them direction to be able to continue to move forward. And so we’ll see what’s presented to us on next Wednesday.”
There will be a HARC meeting today and Development Review Committee meeting on Thursday.
Henriquez said, “Tuesday, HARC meeting starts at five o’clock, and there is a recommendation to postpone from the staff the amendment to the historic architecture guidelines. So that has been postponed. So I just wanted to let everybody know that. And then tomorrow morning (Tuesday), I am going to be participating in the Key West High School 911 simulation with the class. So I’m looking forward to going over there tomorrow morning. So these students are going to simulate a 911 call, and they’re going to have to work through it and learn. So these are our next generation students that could be possibly working that command center. So I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re doing and going to observe that.”
Ambassador Class 44 introductions with the Key West Police Department happened last week.
Henriquez said, “That Ambassador class. They’re wonderful. I’m hoping, and I haven’t confirmed with them yet, but from my understanding, they voted on their project to be able to paint all of the garbage cans on Duval Street. So I’m really excited about that.”
Early bird cleanup will be at Cozumel Park on Friday.
Henriquez said, “It’s going to be hosted by the Key West aquarium. So come on down. It’s at Cozumel Park, also known as the Jonathan Wells Park, and that starts at 8am and we look forward to cleaning that neighborhood. On Thursday, we have the Development Review Committee, the DRC that starts at 10am and then we have our parks and rec board meeting that starts at five, and that’s on Thursday as well. This Wednesday, I will be presenting the state of the city to the greater Key West Chamber of Commerce. Next Thursday, I will be presenting the state of the city to the Navy League. So it’s starting to get out there, and I’m starting to present it all over our city.”
